Breakthrough in the Talkies

In 1929, Lightner starred in the musical comedy film "Gold Diggers of Broadway". The film was a huge success, and it helped to make Lightner a star. She went on to star in a number of other successful films, including "Follow the Leader" (1930),"Palmy Days" (1931),and "The Kid from Spain" (1932). Winnie Lightner was married three times. Her first marriage was to actor Jack Donahue. The couple divorced in 1930. Lightner's second marriage was to actor Tom Howard. The couple divorced in 1933. Lightner's third marriage was to actor George Jessel. The couple divorced in 1953.

Later Career and Death

Lightner's career declined in the late 1930s. She continued to appear in films and on television, but she never regained the popularity that she had enjoyed in the early days of her career. Lightner died in 1971 at the age of 71.
