In 1860, Cody was a young man in his early twenties. He had already gained a reputation as a skilled frontiersman and bison hunter. When the Pony Express was established, Cody was hired as a rider. His job was to deliver mail from Missouri to California, a distance of over 2,000 miles. The journey was dangerous and difficult, and Cody often had to ride through hostile Indian territory.
Cody served as a Pony Express rider for only a few months. But during that time, he made a lasting impression on his fellow riders. In the Wurtherington Diary, which was recently discovered by a historian, Cody is described as a "brave and fearless" rider who was always willing to help others.
The diary also provides a glimpse of Cody's sense of humor. On one occasion, Cody was riding through a particularly dangerous area when he was attacked by a group of Indians. Cody managed to escape, but not before his horse was shot out from under him. Cody then ran to a nearby tree and climbed to safety. As the Indians approached, Cody began to sing a song. The Indians were so amused by Cody's antics that they decided to spare his life.
Cody's adventures with the Pony Express were just a small part of his long and colorful life. He went on to become a successful showman and bison hunter. He also served as a scout for the U.S. Army during the Indian Wars. In 1883, Cody founded the Buffalo Bill Wild West Show, which toured the United States and Europe for over 30 years. Cody's Wild West Show was a huge success, and it helped to popularize the American West.
Cody died in 1917 at the age of 70. He is buried in Lookout Mountain, Colorado. His grave is marked by a large bronze statue of him on horseback.
The Wurtherington Diary is a貴重なdocument that provides a new perspective on Buffalo Bill's life. The diary reveals that Cody was not only a brave and fearless frontiersman, but he also had a keen sense of humor. Cody's adventures with the Pony Express are a testament to his courage and determination. He was a true American hero.
